Romantic Ronda – the ideal getaway
Published on: 11-02-2018

The climate is great and the lifestyle enviable, but one of the very best things about the Costa del Sol is the fact that it puts so many experiences within your reach. These range from classic beach life and summer hedonism to Málaga’s culture and big-city vibe, Tarifa’s surf capital, the Sierra Nevada ski slopes and also the beautiful natural scenery that borders Marbella and extends inland up to and beyond Ronda.

This area, known as the Serranía de Ronda, is the interior heartland of the Costa del Sol, a region of over 1,000 square kilometres of mountain ranges, deep green valleys, waterfalls, forests and pretty white Andalusian mountain villages dotted around the main town, Ronda. It’s a perfect getaway, especially at this time of year, and also especially well-suited to those looking for a romantic weekend retreat.

Historic Ronda

The historic country town at the heart of this rural hinterland is situated about 45 minutes from Marbella, making it an ideal destination for a romantic surprise. Easily reached by car, it can also be reached by rail, a trip through lovely countryside that is in itself a romantic experience. Ronda is an elegant, lively town with a vibrant historic heart full of shops, restaurants and cafés, but it is its unique setting atop a rocky outcrop that makes this town so scenic and special.

From the long park that fringes its panoramic edge you look out across expansive verdant countryside to the distant mountain ranges, a panorama that is as breath-taking as it is unique. Adding to Ronda’s romantic charm is its rich history, which cites its charming bullring as the birthplace of bullfighting and the town as the centre of the Bandoleros, the highwaymen that roamed the surroundings from the 18th century up to the 1930s.

Right by the perfectly situated Parador hotel you cross Ronda’s most iconic landmark, the late 18th century Puente Nuevo, which spans a 120-metre chasm that divides the town into the ‘newer’ and ‘older’ parts. The latter is a domain of historic mansions, palaces, gardens and pretty squares. Many of the finest properties here have been converted into charming boutique hotels, making it a perfect spot for romantic couples wishing to escape for a weekend.

Another tip, tried and tested by our Residencia Estates team, is a visit to any of the many vineyards Ronda has on offer. Here you will find an impression of our trip to Bodegas F. Schatz. Such as visit is very worth while and we recommend you contact Mil Amores to organise it for you.

Amongst many great restaurants Ronda has on offer, we highly recommend restaurant Almocábar, more than fit for a Michelin star.

At Residencia Estates we are long-time residents of Marbella and passionate about this beautiful region – which means that we are not only experts in the best properties for sale in Marbella, but also the lifestyle that makes it so special. Please contact us for more information.
